TECHNOLOGY IN CLINICAL SKILLS TEACHING AS ELEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED LEARNING UTILIZATION: A LITERATURE REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Covid-19 pandemic forced the education sector, including medical education, to adopt technology as part of learning. Technology enhanced learning (TEL) is not a brand new thing on the medical education’s area. TEL can be used in medical education teaching programs, such as: teaching of knowledge, clinical skills and attitudes or behavior. This article objectives are to summarize the teaching clinical skills by utilize technologies. Methods: Study literature that include on this article was obtained from online library databases including NCBI, BMC Medical Education, PubMed, Researchgate, ERIC, Ilmiah.id, and Tandfonline using predetermined keywords. Researchers filtered articles based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then the data was analyzed and summarized regarding the teaching of technology-based clinical skills. Results: From the analysis that has been analyzed, there are 4 types of TEL that can be used in teaching clinical skills. These technologies are the usage of computers (computer assisted learning); usage of the software; creation and use of digital games; and simulation. The selection of these four technologies should have to consider the expected objectives and the resources of the institution. Conclusion: With the ease of internet access and technological developments, the adaptation of teaching method at the COVID-19 pandemic has become easier. Therefore the knowledge and understanding about TEL is needed in depth, both for teaching staff and students. Further research is needed to test the implementation of clinical skills teaching by using various technologies in Southeast Asian countries in order to identify the appropriate procedure and its true benefits.
