Abstract

Introduction: Infographic can be applied as a learning media for medical student and as a health educational media for community. Attractive appearance and easy to understand is the main benefit of infographic usage. Training on designing infographic is rarely integrated into medical curriculum in Indonesia. This study is aimed to explore the implementation and benefit of infographic design training for preclinical students.

Methods: Literature search conducted on five online health and educational databases using predefined keywords. Two researchers independently screened articles based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then the data is extracted and analyzed.

Results: Results uncovered 1218 articles relating to the training on designing infographic for preclinical students. Of these, 5 full-text articles were selected and reviewed. The findings showed that articles related to training on designing infographics were first published in 2015. The majority of articles originating from America and Europe. No articles from Asia or Africa was found. The methods used in the articles vary in the form of quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. The findings showed that there are variations on training implementation, software selection and infographic products assessment. The benefits of designing an infographic were similar across all articles.

Conclusion: Training on designing infographics for preclinical students could provide various benefits during classroom learning and daily clinical practice. The implementation of the training needs to be designed according to the ability of the institution and the learning objectives. Further research in the setting of Southeast Asian countries needs to be done to see its benefits toward Asian preclinical students.
